Jackson Lake Georgia is considered a Pass-Through Lake There are monitors that calculate water flow at the four rivers that feed Jackson lake. Georgia Power calculates the volume of this incoming water and tries to match this with the amount of water that goes through the dam to generate power. If the inflows are more than the Generators can handle, they first open the smaller trash gate then they activate the Obermeyer gates to allow water to flow over the dam to prevent flooding. In making their calculations, they must also consider how these large doses of water will affect the communities below the lake as well.
